GET YOUR LOCUST MEAT!

Gears of War 3, 2011′s most anticipated game, according to the Xbox live dashboard (and comes as no surprise really), is coming out tomorrow, Sept. 20th 2011.

To celebrate this wonderful event, The Huxton (69 Bathurst Street) in Toronto, held a Gears of War 3 Launch Party!  It was definitely a fun time.  While the event was open invite, there was the campaign to find the phone number and receive an invite for some delicious Locust meat. If you got your Locust meat, from Seaton’s Butcher Shop on the Friday you were granted VIP treatment, which got you a free shirt and into the venue faster.

When you got inside the venue, you were put into teams of 5 and faced off with another team. Each player got a big screen TV (maybe 47″ ) and were thrown into a 5 on 5 team death match. The game was beautiful. The textures and colours were phenomenal.  The controls of the game were great, pretty much the same layout, but a little shaky mostly because of sensitivity settings from previous player. There’s also the fact we were right in front of a massive TV.

There was a dude with a chainsaw making “Lancer Art” by sculpting wood and an area for people to get air brushed tattoos of the COG symbol a.k.a The Crimson Omen. They were also serving Locust meat, which was pretty much chicken and/or beef in a pita. Locust meat is so delicious, I had about 3 helpings.

So far the campiagns and marketing for the game have been very successful! From the “Kill or Save Carmine” t-shirts ** to the “Locust Meat”  campaign, Gears of War 3 has now become the most anticipated game of 2011. Well played marketing team, well played.

** Side Note: We find out what the results of the Kill or Save Carmine are once we play the game. I’m on the save Carmine side. His brothers were rooks, but he seems pretty hardened and badass! However, I think what will happen is that he’ll die an epic heroic death near the end of the game.  Jake had a better theory where he survived the game, and in the epilogue where every one is happy and getting a normal life back on track, Carmine slips and falls down the stairs and breaks his neck or something.
